Getting to Know Lanawan Rocks

Lanawan Rocks is a rock formation located in Sitio Tagbak, Barangay Plandico, Concepcion, Iloilo.
It’s a stunning and serene destination for a trekking adventure. The area’s natural beauty is breathtaking, with its vast acres of lush green forests, pristine waters, and picturesque rock formations.
As per locals, the place got its name from the Hiligaynon word “lantawan” which means an area where you can watch something. “Lantaw” is the Hiligaynon term that translates “to watch” in English.
This tourist spot is managed and protected by the local government of Concepcion.
These fascinating rock formations are home to various plant and animal life, including some monkeys, the Philippine eagle, and Nepenthes, also called tropical pitcher plants.
Unfortunately, the animals can’t be seen because they hide if people are in the area, which is their natural habitat.

Before going to Lanawan Rocks, you must remember to wear comfortable clothes. You’ll climb a steep hill, so wear lightweight shoes.

Visiting Lanawan Rocks is very easy to do. From Ceres Bus Terminal in Tagbak, Iloilo City, you must get on a bus bound for Concepcion. It can take up to 3 hours to reach the town proper, depending on the traffic situation. So, I suggest that you travel early in the morning.
Once you’ve arrived in Concepcion, you can look for a tricycle or a motorbike to take you directly to Lanawan Rocks, which may take up to 30 minutes from the town proper.
It’s essential to note that the place is remote and doesn’t have enough access to public transportation. Therefore, you must agree if the driver offers to wait and take you back to town after your visit.
What to do at Lanawan Rocks

Before the climb, one must drop by Anna’s Kitchenette to register and hire a tour guide. You may also leave your things there so you can climb more conveniently.

I was amazed by this display of wine glasses. But do you know that they’re not just decorations? These glasses have a special purpose of telling the locals when the weather is too dangerous. I found out that if they break, especially during a typhoon, it’s a sign for the people to evacuate the area.

The trek only takes about 20 minutes to reach the top of Lanawan Rocks, and you can take photos on your way up. There are areas assigned for this purpose.
Making Memories at Lanawan Rocks

The first part of the trek is a steep climb up the hillside, surrounded by lush vegetation.

Once at the peak, visitors will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding forest, sea, and neighboring islands.

After a tiring climb, you can head back to Anna’s Kitchenette to dine and enjoy a refreshing fruit drink before traveling back to town.

Here I am, enjoying my favorite avocado milkshake after the climb.
